Description

This sensor measures temperature using a DS-2438Z with an operating range of -40°C to +85°C. It is not calibrated, but empirical data proves it to be accurate within a few degrees of actual temperature. The sensing device is partially enclosed and mounted to the PCB, so the time to respond to temperature change will be relatively slow. The sensor should not be placed in direct sunlight, as the radiant heat will become trapped inside the enclosure and will cause higher readings.

As well as measuring temperature, the MS-TL can indicate general light level. A 0 (zero) volt indicates complete darkness, while the maximum value of 5 volts is comparable to the intensity of a 100-watt light bulb at a distance of about 6 inches. The absolute maximum light level will become ambiguous with the amount that the Vcc falls below +5 volts. This is often not a concern, however, since the device is meant to indicate the presence or absence of light.

Please note that there is a hole in the top of the enclosure that is directly over the light sensor. This opening should be kept clear and facing the light source to be monitored.
